You want top quality? You get top quality!

Without 'down talking' our other single twist / stringropes, this rope is superior. You might call it our 'luxury collection'.

We offer this stringrope from our Spanish line, in two sizes: 2 mm (12 plies - 100 meter) and 4 mm (36 plies - 75 meter) and in several colors (more colors will be added).

This listing is for the 4mm in color Burnt Orange. The first pictures are pictures I made. The picture of this color with the really white background is from the manufacturer. I feel mine represent the color better ;-) After the group pictures (by me) you see other available colors (pictures from manufacturer). Sometimes you see only the 2 or 4 mm cone but the color is the same for both sizes.

This single twist (or: stringrope) is made from 100% Organic Combed Cotton. All information about this, you can find in the tab below but in short: it undergoes an extra production progress that eliminates 15% of the fibers, leaving only the largest ones which makes it sooooooo soft to the touch!

And the Combed Cotton we sell, has the GOTS certification to improve the organic cotton even more and with a detox dyeing process. More about this certification in a different tab below.

The facts:

  • Composition: 100% organic detox combed cotton (see tab for more information)
  • Diameter: 4 mm
  • Plies (nr of threads): 36 plies
  • Length: 75 meter per cone (+/- 5%)
  • Weight: 250 gram per cone
  • For accessories and macrame (also excellent for heavy use items such as cushions, handbags, blankets) as it is very resistant (because of the combed cotton)
  • Needle: 7-9
  • Certification: GOTS certification & DETOX TO ZERO protocol to OEKO-TEX (see tabs for more information)

This rope is also available in 2mm (100m per cone).

We admit, it is kind of confusing as now we have two Spanish suppliers.
Our Mediterranean Line is also from Spain but as that one is well know as 'the Mediterranean Line', we keep it that way and we hereby introduce to you our other Spanish supplier by the name of 'The Spanish Line.

This company is a family-owned company, working in the wonder world of ropes since the 19th century (the picture below shows the workers in 1920!)

They produce their ropes with versatile and sometimes also very specialized materials, 100% made in Europe.

Their work is produced in three basic foundations: listen to the user, do research and maintain the family tradition of high quality products at a competitive price. While doing so they always take the preservation of our environment for the future generations into account.

What I feel is really special about this company, is that they really put a lot of effort in producing in such a way that their products are officially certified.

All their products are guaranteed 100% made in Spain and they only use 100% material, made in Europe. They also require their suppliers to have the OEKO-TEX certificate (like they have themselves as well!) to guarantee the control of harmful and toxic substances and make sure the production have an European origin. All their products therefore have the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate.

Besides this, they use as little plastic as possible. The labels are made of recycled paer with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and Ecolabel certifications and the packaging and the spools of the cones are made of recycled paperboard wih FSC certification as well..

And last but not least, they comply with the extensive regulations of the Sanitary Registration of the Ministery of Health of the Government of Spain. The products do not contain optical bleach or bisphenol. Their materials pass a very strict health control as the company also has a range of food threads, and that control is also applied to they yarns for the handmade sector. All products are periodically tested in external labatories approved by the European Union.

Besides the above, there are several certifications that are specific to a certain product (these are mentioned within the product description). Such as the 'Detox to Zero - OEKO-TEX'certificate, the GOS Certification and GRS.

Detox to Zero by OEKO-TEX® certification
This means we can guarantee you a cotton freeof harmful or toxic substances in our supply chain. The  thread is dyed without using any cancerogenic or allergenic dyes, making it totally hipoalergenic.

So there is no use of toxic chemicals and it prevents handling of hazardous substances, especially in waste water and so achieving the goals of the Greenpeace DETOX Campaign.

GOTS = Global Organic Textile Standard

Carrying the GOTS certification, means that the combed cotton has not endured any genetic manipulat ion and has been cultivated without the use  of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. It also guarantees the health protection of the people involved in the supply chain, from the employees to the final users (you!), and makes sure that the working conditions are fair for both cotton producers and textile employees.

100% Organic Combed Cotton
The main difference between the 'regular' and 'combed' cotton - is that the last one undergoes a second process that involves passing the yarn through some 'combs' that remove the last impurities. This process also eliminates 15% of the fibers, leaving only the largest and most resistant ones. The main advantage of Combed Cotton is the overall quality of the items made, since being made with long fibers, they are much more resistant and break less easily, as well as being fresher and even softer to the touch. It also holds the dyeing processes better and the colors stay bright for longer.

Please do note that this combed cotton, also unravels easier - as it only contains the longest fibers. We therefore recommend you to use it for smaller items and to tape the ends before working with it.

The Combed Cotton we sell, has the GOTS certification to improve the organic cotton even more and with a detox dyeing process. More about this certification in a different tab.

I hereby provide you with the information about washing the different types of cotton rope within our Spanish line.

  • The 2 and 4 mm 100% Organic Cotton Combed stringrope you can carefully wash by hand
  • We do not advise you to wash the 5mm Premium stringrope, the twisted macrame rope and the Cotton Air braided rope

Why is the above?
The difference is the thickness if the ropes.
The 100% Organic Combed Cotton stringrope is thinner than the other 3 mentioned. The problem with the last three is that it wouldn't dry fast. The humidity could stay inside the rope for a long time and eventually rot.

Besides this, the 100% Organic Combed Cotton stringrope is more absorbent because it is made of 100% cotton while th other three are made of 95% recycled cotton and 5% recycled PET (polyester)

Therefore we do not recommend the last three. If you have stains on it, we advise you use wet wipes (like the one you use for babies) to clean. If you do decide to wash items made of these ropes after all, make sure you dry them very very well.

And how about using this ropes for outside use?
Well, if you hang an item away from the rain (so it can't cat wet), you could enjoy your piece for a while outside but it is of course cotton so in general we recommend you to use our special ropes for outside use. You can find it here (within our Spanish line) and here (from our Mediterranean Line).

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® - class 1

All products that have this qualification AND this tab describing it (!) have the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® with product class 1. This is the strictest class in security.
This gives you (and your clients) the guarantee that products with this certification can be safely used to make articles for babies and toddlers.

In short, this certification means that there are no harmful or toxic materials used for the production. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is the best known certification for textiles when it comes to showing whether they contain harmful materials.

More information:
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is the world's leading eco-label for textile items and determines whether they contain harmful substances. Having this qualification shows tha no harful or toxic substances have been applied for their preparation, thus complying with the requirements of the OEKO-TEX® certification.

All products with this tab, showing this information, are CLASS 1, the strictest in security, saying that products with this certification can be safely used to make articles for babies and toddlers.
They also comply with the requirements of Annex XVII of the REACH (including the use of azo dyes, nickel, etc.), as well as comply with the American requirements regarding the total lead content in children's articles.

This certification guarantees that our materials are free of any harmful chemical or substance, in addition to the human-ecological requirements established by OEKO TEX for products in contact with the skin.

  • You will receive a message with track & trace code so you know when your package is on the way.
  • We trust you and we trust ourselves but.. .we do not always trust the post ;-) Because we want to make sure, everything you order, arrives with you save and as fast as possible, we ship everything with a track & trace code. This makes it a bit more expensive but gives us both more insurance that your package will arrive.
    • Note: only very small shippings within NL (things that fit in an envelope), we will send without track & trace. Should you request it to be send with track & trace, then please do contact me.

NATIONAL SHIPPING (within NL)

National shipping: track & trace and insurance
All our national shippings are shipped with track & trace. This only means you know where your package is and when to expect it. This is not an insurance in case something happens with your package while on the way.

As for the insurance of your package; please select accordingly at check out (for only  €0,70 extra your package is ensured for loss, damage etc. on route). We strongly advise you to do so when you spend money (for example over €50,-) as otherwise, when something happens, we cannot be held liable.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

International shipping: track & trace and insurance
All our international shippings (one exception - see below) are send with a track & trace code and they are insured.

  • For shippings within Europe the insurance is up to 500 euro.
  • For shippings outside the EU this is up to 100 euro.

For international, small (less then 350 gram) shippings:
The international rules and regulation changed when shipping to addresses outside of the Netherlands. Unfortunately this means that from 2020 onwards, goods may no longer be franked in the same way as letters. I can frank this type of shipment as a parcel without Track & Trace (being a little cheaper), registered mail or insurance service. Other countries also require that the Dutch post shares information about the content with them digitally in advance.

Long way short: this means shipping small/light items got more expensive :-(
I choose to ONLY send items with track & trace - so as a package. As for those few euros that shipping it without track & trace, it is simply not worth it as packages tend to 'magically disapear' too often in such case.
So if you want a cute plant animal or just 1 wooden macrame ring, it might be smart to add some to your order in order to make the shipping costs more economical.

Calculated weight: for all foreign shippings:
Our system counts the total weight of your shipping. Most of the time, this should give the right shipping price in the end. But  when you order a lot, we also need bigger boxes - meaning more shipping material. And this has a weight as well. So sometimes, the weight could be a bit more then automatically calculated. In that case, we will send you a message with the extra costs, before shipping your package. When you agree, we will send you an invoice for those extra shipping costs. After receiving your payment, we will ship your package.
On the other hand: if we calculated you a normal package price for shipping and there is a way of shipping it cheaper, we will do so and refund you the money you were charged too much.
